Where is the best place in the UK to be a Woman?
To find out, the National Centre for Social Research looked at the evidence from a number of reputable sources, including the Office for National Statistics’ 2016 Annual Population Survey and the 2011 Census.
Of the 380 local authorities in Scotland England and Wales, analysed by the National Centre for Social Research, Edinburgh was in the top 49%, coming 186th.
Our City was in the top :
- 3% of local authorities for Education
- 7% for Income
- 13% for Environment and
- 39% for Culture
However, Edinburgh has much more to do for Women in terms of Safety, Wellbeing and Life Expectancy.
The City ended up in the bottom

- 23% for Wellbeing
- 25% for Life Expectancy
- 47% for Housing Affordability
